Battlestations!
Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 2:10AM This is a commercial we made for the Doritos Crash the Superbowl contest. We had an absolute blast making it at U-Prep in Redding CA. Everyone in it is a U-Prep student and they all did an amazing job. While there are quite a few effects shots, the "Fractal Dorito" itself is entirely real. It was made from more than 12,000 chips. It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun.
Be sure to check out the Projects page to learn more about how we made the giant fractal chip. We also have a Making of/Bloopers Reel.
The entire commercial was shot on a Panasonic GH1. It's a tiny SLR type camera that takes amazing video. It did an incredible job and we're planning on using it in upcoming projects.
Speaking of which...
We have a webshow coming up called "Nerd High". It's a musical comedy that takes place in an alternate world where all the highschool cliche's are reversed. Nerds rule the highschool and all the jocks and cheerleaders are outcasts. But it gets even crazier than that.....
Be sure to follow us on Facebook or Twitter to find out more and to know when the first episode is released.

I really like how the music and effects all line up. Great job!
This was really good. I loved the nice reflector lighting you achieved. I also like that you weren't afraid to go for the wonderful lens flare lighting effect from shooting into the sun. many a creative wouldn't
have had the guts to do it. It looks great. The ping pong table sight gag was marvelous. It had a real cool "Spy Kids" feel to it (Antonio Banderes). All of the stereotypes present and accounted for. I will say this, no matter how it fares in the competition, this is the sort of thing you put on the tele 40 years from now over a family Thanksgiving celebration and all of the grand kids want to know who, how, when where and why. Great accomplishment. Good luck in the competition.
I really liked it. Very well done!
Good Job guys!! I'm sending it to my son-in-law who is also in film editing, etc. He'll get a "kick" out of it.
Totally fun! Loved the effects & acting, every bit as good as any other SB ad. I'm still giggling over the nerd super powers. :-D
Look forward to seeing your webshow!
Cute idea, and very well executed! Nice work!
